If you are anything like me you have to have a reason to do things. There is a whole thought process that happens and you go through all of these questions. Who do I want to be in this situation?, What am I doing? Where am I going? When is this all happening? and my favorite- Why am I doing this? Let’s just take a minute and talk about my WHY
Why am I a photographer? There are so many reasons, but my true Why digs deep into who I am as a person. The simple answer is- “To give everyone a chance in the spotlight, even if only for a few minutes.” I could easily leave it at that and be done, but I want to explain what that means so you all can figure out your why as well.
My family is my rock and I love them all so much. I have a brother with some severe disabilities that made growing up sometimes scary, sometimes amazing. There would always be people telling us that he can’t do things or that he won’t be able to do things in the future. I didn’t like that. Fast forward to my own children. I have 2 beautiful twin boys who are profoundly deaf. There are STILL people who say those same things to me. So I took that feeling and turned it into this- what if I could give everyone an equal amount of spotlight. What if I could make them feel like everyone else even if for only a minute. I don’t discriminate against anyone or anything. I don’t care if you have 3 arms or none. I don’t care what language you speak because when you’re with me for that one hour, it’s all about you. You are all special and you all deserve that spotlight.
Your why may not be quite so emotional or close to home but that’s totally ok!! You why is what makes you the worker you are. It isn’t limited to photographers or creatives, but all of you have a why. You are all out there doing something and there is a why. So I challenge you this week to find it. Dig deep, write it out, share it with the world, or don’t ! Feel free to share it with me. I’d be so happy to hear all about you and your why and I hope you know a bit more about me and my why as well. Here’s a few photos of my 3 heros and the inspiration behind my why 🙂

I have to give a HUGE shoutout to my dearest friend Jess from Jessica Husted Photography. She doesn’t normally photograph kiddos but we have the most amazing friendship, so she helped a mama out 😉 She took the boys’ 1 year photos for me and they turned out amazing. Please go check her out! www.jessicahustedphotography.com
Make this week great loves!

This is so beautiful, and so personal! We all should talk more about our whys, so clients understand us more and connect with us on a deeper level then just client-photographer.
Thank you so much! I 100% agree. We are people too and sometimes I feel like even we forget that. I love forming relationships with my clients that last longer than our session time!
Great post! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! I hope you got to know a bit about me 🙂
You have such a big heart!!! Keeping rocking your "why" girl!!! 🙂
Oh thank you so much that’s too sweet!
I absolutely love this! SO important to have a why behind what we do, and yours is beautiful! 🙂
Thank you so much! It is important and I’m so glad you think so as well.
