Have you been around the Michael’s / Hobby Lobby/ Lowe’s Challenge hashtag at all lately? Do you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about? If not, head over to your friendly internet and do a quick search. It’s a craze that is taking social media by storm, and while I usually don’t partake in these events I decided to step out of my box and try it out. Michael’s went on Facebook supporting the portrait challenge, even encouraging photographers and cell phone-ographers to tag the craft store chain in their posts. My super amazing friend Lauren and I made a date of it, and we met up glammed out to take some kick ass portraits in the floral department. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it was surprisingly fun and creative. It’s not every day you get to play with so many colors and textures all at once. That is, unless you frequently photograph in greenhouses and if so I’m jealous please share.
Lauren is one of my wonderful photographer friends who I just love. She is so full of life and joy and I just had the best time hanging out with her. We definitely had a few people who paused to watch, but mostly we were left alone to laugh and cause minimal ruckus in the fake plants. We did a super great set up with some blue and green vines, and I thin my favorites are when we ventured out of the aisles in the back and into the front of the store that houses all of the individual branches in those cylinders. Now, Lauren is a lot taller than I am, so let’s just say there was some serious balance on toes and squatting happening, but the end result is nothing short of fabulous. I did jump on the other side of her camera and attempted to not be a total idiot, I’ll share how that went at some point maybe! For now, take a look at my take on this super fun and interesting craft store portrait challenge!
Lauren, thank you for agreeing to my crazy plan. I am so lucky to have amazing people like you in my life. I had a blast and I know we will have so many adventures together! (By the way, if you’re looking for a dark and moody vibe for your photos please go check her out here! She’s so amazing and will take amazing care of you and your memories.)
All of these florals have me aching for spring! I promised my Instagram family that I’d do a post about some super easy DIY floral accents for your wedding, come back for that next week! My fingers may be hot glue burned and I still have stem tape in my hair, but my house is looking floral-iffic!
Happy Monday!
