Have you ever looked at a big, happy family and just thought to yourself, “I would love to see that many smiles every day”? I know for a fact that I have, and spending time with this family on such a beautiful day really solidified that for me. Rick and Katie blended these two families together to create a beautiful group of love and smiles and laughter, and they made sure to keep that up during their wedding day.
I pulled up to meet everyone getting ready and I was just so excited and a little nervous. You see, back when I did their engagement session it was snowing. A lot. If you know anything about me you’ll know that even though I was a dancer, I am the least graceful person on the planet and I took a HUGE spill during their session. Them being awesome, they laughed with me as I struggled to get back up and regain feeling in my then frozen body. I walked into the house, greeted the beautiful bride with a hug and she said, “Now you’re not going to fall today right?”. Totally hilarious but definitely necessary, I laughed and promised that today I would not be the one falling if anyone was. (Let the record show that I did not fall at all so praise for that).
We took some time photographing the beautiful lilac details, and were ready to go set up for the first look at the church. I love doing first looks, and I had a feeling that this one would be both beautiful and emotional. When we arrived to the church I saw that the trees were beautiful, and my second shooter informed me that there was indeed a pink blooming tree. Portrait goals were being achieved today friends! The first look was sweet and intimate, but oh so beautiful. They were just so happy to see each other, and the look on Rick’s face when he saw his bride was one that I truly won’t forget. Those moments are my favorite.
The ceremony had it’s own special surprise as well. Katie’s uncle has recently been named a Deacon and so this ceremony was his debut of sorts. How amazing that was to see! I got a backstage pass for the ceremony so to speak and some of the moments I was able to see were so beautiful. The way they looked at each other during their vows, the way their hands were interlocked while they prayed. Their youngest even held the rings to be blessed and I just couldn’t help but get emotional. It was amazing.
Rick and Katie made their families one on a beautiful day, and I am so honored I was able to be there for them. I know there were some bumps along the way ( I mean if there aren’t is it really a wedding??), but nevertheless it was perfect. Enjoy some of my favorite moments from this spring wedding at St. Mark’s The Evangelist church.
